Project overview
IMED supported Muhimbili National Hospital and the Abbott Fund through a five-year institutional development engagement. The work addressed management and leadership capacity, strategic planning, institutional learning and practical management systems.
Work delivered from 2021 to 2025
- 2021: Development of a resource mobilisation strategy and a service costing and pricing model.
- 2022: Management and leadership capacity assessment and capacity development plan.
- 2023: Management and leadership capacity assessment and development of a multi-year capacity development plan.
- 2024: Development of three hospital management short courses and a management learning centre.
- 2025: Strategic planning for institutional capacity, Board training and training of trainers for MNH staff.
Why the engagement matters
Strong health services depend on capable managers, practical systems and leaders who can turn plans into consistent performance. The multi-year relationship allowed IMED to support both immediate priorities and longer-term institutional capability.
IMED’s role
IMED combined assessment, advisory support, curriculum development and training. This connected institutional strategy with the skills and tools required by hospital leaders and staff.
