IMED marked World Mental Health Day 2025 with a workplace session on stress management, empathy, balance and building a healthier, more supportive team.

Honouring World Mental Health Day 2025: Prioritising Our Minds at Work

Taking care of our minds is just as important as taking care of our bodies. To mark World Mental Health Day 2025, the IMED team joined a workplace mental health session led by Ms Fides, a professional psychologist from Tumaini Counselling.

Why mental health matters at work

Mental wellbeing affects how people think, communicate, make decisions and respond to pressure. It also shapes leadership, teamwork and relationships across an organisation.

A healthy workplace helps people stay motivated, connected and productive. For IMED, supporting mental wellbeing is part of building a positive culture where people can contribute with confidence.

What the team explored

The session combined practical guidance with open reflection. Key areas included:

  • recognising common signs of stress before they become overwhelming;

  • building healthier boundaries between work and personal life;

  • understanding emotions and responding to them constructively;

  • using empathy to strengthen teamwork and everyday communication; and

  • creating a workplace where people feel respected, supported and safe to speak.

Small actions can strengthen a team

Mental health is personal, but a supportive workplace is a shared responsibility. Managers and colleagues can help by listening without judgement, checking in with one another and responding thoughtfully when someone is struggling.

Healthy ways of managing pressure also matter. Taking breaks, planning workloads realistically, asking for support and maintaining connection with others can help people recover and work more sustainably.

Moving from awareness to practice

A single conversation cannot address every workplace challenge. It can, however, make mental health easier to discuss and help teams identify practical changes. IMED will continue encouraging habits that protect wellbeing, strengthen relationships and support good performance.

A healthy mind contributes to a healthy team. A healthy team is better prepared to serve clients, solve problems and create lasting results.

Practical reminders for every workplace

  • Make regular check-ins part of team routines.

  • Encourage people to ask for help early.

  • Plan workloads and deadlines with wellbeing in mind.

  • Respond to concerns with privacy, respect and empathy.

  • Connect employees with qualified professional support when needed.
